A country a would like to visit

I would like to visit France...

...Basically, cause in France there are lot of bands, good bands, that I dream one day to see them in live. Also it's a frequent point of destination for another bands from the rest of Europe and North America, because in France there are a really good music scene. Also I would like to visit France for make a post-graduate, maybe in urban planning or something like this.
France is a very nice country, with beautifull cities and landscapes, and a great culture with innovative ideas in the academic area. I have some family friends there. They live in Lyon in the southwest of France. I lived with them for four years here in Chile and I have not seen them long time ago. It would be great to travel there with friends, people who like the same kind of music as me. It would be great to go for a drink in a bar in Paris, go to a show or to travel across the county on the TGV, and visit the beaches of the Mediterranean coast. Also I could go with my girlfriend because every people says that Paris is a very romantic place.

Corrrection of a post: MY NEW IPOD

Last week, I bought an 2 gigabytes ipod nano at a good price and after one moth of terrible suffering, I could hear again the music that I like in those long and boring travels from my house to university. My last mp3 player was a 512 megabytes sony walkman that I bought last year but it was damaged. Then I had to use the radio of my cell phone (I hate radio music) or put up with the noise of the "reggaeton" of the "flaites" cell phones who sit beside me on the bus. For me, is very important to listen to music (specially my strange kind of music). For this reason , I can't not have just any mp3 player.
The ipod is very special, because it plays every music files format, and it (wt)has a very easy way to operate it and manage music files. I can also watch photos and store information on it, even it has games too! I really love my new ipod, and even though I'm not a material boy, I know that if I lost it, my life would be terrible

a good film: Good Bye lenin!

I really love to watch films a lot, then it is very difficult for me to choice one of them as the best I have seen. But at least, the best film I have seen, was Good Bye Lenin! of the german director, Wolfgang Becker made in 2003. The first time I saw it, was 2 years ago. I read the argue of the film in a magazine and after I started to search it in different places. Finaly, I found it in the "Persa Bio-bio" (a place that I really hate) in a stall that sells bootleg films for only $1,000. When I returned to my home, I saw it, whit my brother, and we were very impressed. The story is about the fall of the old German Democratic Republic in 1989, in particular about a family divided by the political positions, (the mother is a suporter of Honnecker and the workers party and the son is a suporter of the opening to the west) but when the mother suffer a heart attack and after 8 months in coma, (time in what the berlin wall was fell) the son decides to keep alive the German Democaric Republic for care his mother. Is a great film that I have seen more than a dozen times!

Learning English

Well, Now I will write about my experience learning english...

I'm learning english since I went to Kinder grade, in 1992. In these days I learned about simple things of the language as numbers, colors, animals and others simple expresions. Then I continue learning in the following school grades, but in 5th grade, when I came to Chile, I was sent to a public school, then I did not have english classes for two years. In 7th grade, I returned to have classes until my last year in the school, but the quality of the classes were very poor. Most things that I know in english I have been learned listening to the music, searching the lyrics of my favourite bands, and translating them with a dictionary. Really I think that I'm not very good learning english and I feel that is easier to understand than speake, but only by the difference beetween both languages (spanish and english) for exampl is more easy for me to learn french.
I have a good memory for learn new words, so I have a good vocabulary in english, but the difficult thing for me is the using of the verbal tenses. I think that the english cultur is very serious, I imagine the British people as very serious and timely (maybe that's the image that the Britons show to the whole world) but at the same time, the many young people in Britain has always been very advanced in avant-garde tendences . Anyway I prefer the British accent over the North American. In the end, I think that the english language is the most important today in whole world (Would that be the spanish!) so is very important to speak english for everyboy

Sepetember 18th

The national holiday of Chile, is in September 18th, day of the First goverment meeting happened in 1810. In September 18th, chileans do lot of typical things (unlike the rest of the year) and games like "rayuela", "palo encebado" and the popular kite flying. Also chilean people love to eat and drink a lot when the September 18th comes, the family meets in barbacues and they drink grape chicha and wine. Other typical foods are the "empanadas" and the "anticuchos", those foods and drinks can be find in "fondas" or "ramadas", places where the people dance "cueca" or other popular tropical dances. I discovered the September 18th, when I was 8, because only in this year I arrive to Chile. In Colombia, the national holiday is less important, so I was very impress by the magnitude of the feast. But my family never do anything for the September 18th, because this day don't have any importance for my mother, (She's Colombian) for this reason, I just feel this day like another holiday.
I like much the typical foods and drinks and I always try to eat and drink a lot, that is the matter for me.
Nowdays I pass this days with friends having a little holidays.

Me, five years from now

When I see to the past, five years back, I realize that my life has experimented a lot of changes. It makes me think that within five years lot of things will be different. In the begining, I think that I will be professional, (I hope) so therefore I will be working, I can't imagine where, but I'm sure that I will doing that. Maybe I will still be living in Chile, or maybe in another place of South America, but anyway I hope to can make any post-graduate abroad and return after. I think that I will living alone, or with any friend. Anyway I imagine me still making music, maybe whit the same people or maybe not, but the idea is to continue playing music. On the other hand, I think that the world will remain the same, whit it good things and it bad things, but, I'm sure, that I will be better than now

A country I would like to visit

The country i would like to visit is France, Because it's a beautiful country in the urban side, (something that I like very much) There's a lot of great architectural and historical places. But the most important reason for me, to visit France, is the large number of good bands, of diverses styles that I like, (screamo, emo, noise, etc) So my visit would be largely a musical tour, arround the country, and neighboring countries.

Also Frances have others major atractions, like its coast in the mediterranean sea, the island of Corsica, the alpes mountains and of course... Its women! For other side, I'm very insterested to study some post-graduate related whit geography in France. There'are a lot of great universities, and also the french language isn't hard to learn. I hope to go someday!.

Idols?

I have not any idol... Maybe I can considerate some people who mades something big, in some aspects like music, football, literature, Etc. I see all the people, however important it is, with some admiration, but never idolatry. When I was child, I felt like idols the players of the selection (see last post), but the football player are mere mortals; they also get drunk y crash their cars! And not to speak of the musicians!; lot of parties, lot of girls, drugs; an enviable life, but empty. They're always alone. Now, I admire some young musicians of little bands of screamo, from Europe, USA or Japan, but only for the music that their create, and I don't considerate them like idols or anything like that. They are mortals too! Any case, I would not like neither to be an idol a day, but the girls tempts a lot!

The classic Colombia - Argentine

The last tuesday, at the nigth, happened that some years ago I was waiting... The football games between Colombia and Argentine are a really classics of the south american football, since the unforgettable Sunday of september of 1993, when in match of definition of the group B for the world cup of USA 94'. These evening of winter, in the city of Buenos Aires, the great Colombian team, starring by great players like Carlos Valderrama of Faustino Asprilla, left to the field to seal its classification. The fiel of the "Estadio Monumental" of Buenos Aires was, until this day, unbeaten, so the possibilities of Colombia for classficate were very small, but the history change that day... Colombia defeats Argentine 5 - 0. I still remembered this day, I was four, but I was very happy, and watching how all the country becamed paralyzed after the victory. After this day, Colombia, a little country compared with Argentine, (in football) always given surprises to it. And the last tuesday happened again. Colombia wins 2 -1!

A real piece of art

The fact of making an album cover, requires some content of art. That becomes more intense in some musical genres more specifics and vanguards. In the case of the music that I listening, there's some beautiful album covers, Often made with simple drawings or sketches. One of them is the album cover of the split beetween the italian band "La Quiete" whit the german band "Louise Cyphre". I listened that album arround six months ago, Is a musical piece very frenetic and adrenalinic, That contrasts greatly with the art of gentle strokes of the cover, that I thougth very similar as the french art of "Belle Epoque" at the end of 19th century. I like it too, because I feel that is something that I can make for myself. And the contrast between the black and red, and the yellow of the back are very, very beautiful

Why I'm studying geography

I don't really wanted to study geography, I wanted to study sociologhy.

But the destiny didn't want that me study sociologhy, I read a lot of boring, large and old books when I still was at school, everyone was telling me: "That carreer is so boring, and hard to get job" I didn't matter that anyone saying, I was very enthusiastic about studying sociology and believed that it was my vocation, the only problem was my score in the PSU, that would probably don't let me studying sociologhy. So did happened, my score was low. Then I had any posibility for enter to a public university (in Santiago) for studying sociologhy, Then I started to look at other possibilities, and when I thought that it would be impossible, appeared a carreer what my brother wanted to study when he was a little child. Geography. I remember not having a lot of expectations, but then I managed to adapt very well, even today. And sociologhy, now I discovered that it's very, very boring!

My favourite subject

My favourite subject at the moment is soil conservation 2 with the teacher Rodrigo Vargas. The subject is about how can we to control the erosion, and he teach us some technicals for that. The technicals are compilates in the book "The manual for the control of erosion" were are a lot of works with their respectives graphics and indications for them.

The course includes some mathematics technicals to be able to build those works and calculates things like slope, water flow, flow velocity and more.

I'm very interested in this area because I think that mixture a lot of physical geography with some very usefull for the people, with tangible results for daily living.

The theacher it's a great professional, he had writed a lot of publications about erosion control and his highly respected at the national level. Also he's a very sympatic person and very sociable with students

Correction of a post

My favourite song in this moment is "We all have blood on our hands" by Funeral Diner. First time i listened it was 5 months ago, when i finished to download the last Funeral Diner LP, called "The Underdark"(2006). This is the last song of the CD, maybe for that reason it´s the most emotive and powerful song, the lyrcis is about how we build our faith and surprising that faith fall with us to an infinite hollow, criying and questioning to ourselves why that happen. The lead vocal use a sad voice mixed with hard screams when lyrics show anger. The guitars maintain a slow rythm and exploding at the same time when the lead singer screams producing a lot emotions in my head and heart; drummer maintain playing like a war march also explode at the time guitars and voice. This song marked me because I write songs for my band too, and this lyric enter to me showing me how I must write or how I wanted to write, Funeral Diner is a screamo band for people who like the emotions exploding with hard and slow melodies.

And the original of pedrito was:

The last film that I saw

The last film that I saw, was "Kwal" (The bow) by the Korean director Kim Ki Duk. It's a film from 2005 and like others movies of the same director, it's really a work of art. The film takes place on a ship, in the middle of the ocean, where an old man lives with a 16 year old girl, and he plans to marry her, when she turns 17. The old men has a bow, with which he makes an musical instrument and at the same time uses it like a weapon to protect the girl of the harassments of other men. One characteristic of this director is the use of gestures, more than of dialogues, and the special election of the background music, that in this one film, is traditional Korean music. The end of this film, is very surprising but I prefer not to say it, for not kill the magic. I recommend it!

My favourite song

My favourite song is called Aka m80, the wolf by the North Americnan band Portugal, The man. I listened to it last year, when I found the website band, because the name of the band seemed to me funny, (I saw in a flyer of another band) and inmediately I fell in love with that song... The song is an mixed of blues whit rock really diffrent than the music that I normally listen, that is screamo, emo and indie sounds. The sound of the song is very calm, but intense and nostalgic at the same time, it has the typical guitar solo of the blues, but in a slow rhytm acompanied by a very great piano melody in bottom, and the voice of John Baldwin Gourley the single vocal, are very acute and special. It's a perfect song for close the eyes and let think awhile, and its special too, because it's the only song that I can play in guitar

AKA M80 The Wolf
Through crooked teeth and mouthed up ties
They spit you up river just like all those lions
That walked the banks
They said, "Paint me that river And would you use only blues
With a brilliant big black mouth and
Lengths of pines that route the river through Through and through"

Fashion ballrooms of the leaves
We’d like to watch the ghosts dance

They said, "Paint me that arm
That lies directly over mountains
Where the glaciers climb so tall.
One absent of the scars passing boats and ships and oars
Tend to leave with all the sounds of the ocean".

I am but a man But a proud, proud man
Silver bells that line the way
Through baited trails.
We’ll find you there

My favorite website

My favorite website is the homepage of the newspaper "el tiempo" of Bogotá, beacause I can find there some information about the scores and commentaries about the games of the colombian football league and particulary of the football club Juniors of Barranquilla and the national team, who are my favorites teams. I discovered it about six or seven years ago, when I been started to use internet and I needed to know the scores of the colombian league, for me and my mother who is fanatic of the football too. I look for some others newspapers and websites, but in "el tiempo" I found the more complete information. I visit it every monday after the games of the weekend, and sometimes en middle of the week too, after a game in an intenational tournament. I like it, beacuse it approaches me to Colombia and my family and not only for the football, but that also by the news.

Review of the bbc learning english homepage

The web site it's a good initiative to use the web for learning english, using diffrents audiovisuals tools like videos, listenings, photos and more, for made more easy the learning of the english for the web user. There's a section called webcast, wherein diffrents persons of all nacionalities and languages who are learning english, may write an opinion about various topics and publish them like in a diary and also to be answered for any other person. The idea of the section is to give rise to the practice of the language as your are in line with other persons who are learning english at the same time. At the same way, the others sections of the Bbc's website, makes that the student empower the apprenticeship by the using of anothers dynamics tools that allows the e-learning. In my opinion, that's the purpose of the website and its carried out very well by their creators.
